Two Nights in Killarney

Tonight is the second of two nights spent in Killarney. Unlike our previous hotels/castles, the hotel we are staying in is right in town, so it’s been easy to head out after dinner and visit the pubs! Every pub has live music – you can just walk down the street and hear the music coming out of each one. Between this, the Irish music being played on our tour bus, and the harpist/singer who performed for us the other night, I”m starting to learn a lot of the popular Irish songs so that I can sing along with the rest of the pub goers. In related news, Irish coffee is a gateway drug to whiskey. Which is probably a good thing, as the last night of our tour will include a visit to the Jameson distillery!

Anyway, I’m about to hit the hay as we have yet another early morning tomorrow1 But check out this map of Ireland – the black line shows the route that my tour is covering! Today we drove the Ring of Kerry (that little loop in the bottom left hand side of the map), and tomorrow we are going to Cork and Blarney. Where I will be kissing the Blarney Stone – despite the warnings from my epidemiologist colleagues!

  1. I can’t believe that me, of all people, chose a holiday where I have to get up early every morning. Thank goodness I’ll be going to Nice after this to have a holiday to rest up from my Irish holiday. []
