175 of 365

So 175 days ago I started doing a second 365 photo challenge when I realized that I had it on my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days and I only had 365 left of those 1001 days, so it was now or never. As with my previous 365 day challenge, a lot of the photos are pretty mundane, as I often only remember to take a photo of myself at the end of the day when I’m at home and doing something boring1.

Here are a few of my favourites so far:

Day 21

Day 32

Day 35

Day 40

Day 44

Day 47

Day 49

Day 55

Day 97

Day 128

Day 135

Day 138

Day 153

  1. I use brushing my teeth at the end of the day as a trigger to mentally go over my day to see if I’ve (a) taken a photo for the 365 day challenge and (b) done some kind of exercise. So I often find myself doing a few pushups and taking a photo right before bed! []

1 Year To Go ‘Til 1001

A mere 636 days ago, I published my second list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. Which means that I only have 1 year left until those 1001 days are up1! So today seemed like a good day to check in on my progress.

Shockingly, I have only accomplished 13 of the 101 items on my list! 13?! What the hell?

In my defence, I wrote out that list before I actually knew that I was going to go to b-school2 and that my every waking moment that I’m not at work would be filled with debits and credits and leveraging competitive advantage of organizational culture to create shared value in a sustainable way rather than completing item #71 on my 101 list.

However. The reason one monitors one’s progress is so that one might take some corrective action when they notice they are not on track. So I’ve gone through this list to pick out the low hanging fruit – I figure it will be helpful to focus my attention on the stuff that I know I can get done!

First off, we have the “Ones That Are In The Works“:

26. Do some kind of exercise every day for a year (I’m currently on day 192)
55. Leave the continent (trip booked for August 1)
65. Go to a Vancouver Canadians game (ticket purchased for Wednesday!)

Next, we have the “Ones That I Absolutely Positively Can Do, Shouldn’t Even Be A Problem At All“:

24. Write a will
52. Cook a decent tasting eggplant parmesan
69. Visit Galiano Island – anyone wanna come with?
70. Visit Bowen Island – anyone wanna come with?
98. drive the entire length of the King George Boulevard of Broken Dreams with Kalev

Then we have the “Ones That I Should Get Off My Butt And Organize

23. Go skydiving
39. Go scuba diving
43. Make homemade pasta
44. Go to NYC3
62. For one week, go to bed at 9 and read non-work related books
77. Do 15 minutes of yoga every morning for a month
85. Make homemade marshmallows
88. watch salmon spawning
89. go to Fright Nights at the PNE
90. do the Stanley Park Christmas lights train ride
94. Make homemade egg nog.
99. Make Baked Alaska
100. print eight photos and put them in the photo frame that I bought ages ago that has been handing on my wall with the stock photos in it, because that really looks quite ridiculous the way it is
101. publish 501 blog postings in this 1001 day period18.

Then we have “One That I Can Do Right This Second“:

36. Incorporate the word “growlery” into my vocabulary.

I hereby declare that from now on my second bedroom, heretofore known as my “office”, shall henceforth be referred to as my “growlery”. Number 36, consider yourself accomplished!

And finally, there’s “One That I Can Do By Starting Today and Not Screwing Up For The Next 365 Days“:

87. Do another 365 day photo challenge.

A 365 day photo challenge is one where you take a self-portrait every single day for 365 days4. I kept thinking that I had “plenty” of time to get to this one, but since I only have 365 days left in my 1001 days, today is my last chance to start this. And start it I have! Here’s my first photo:

Day 1

Me, writing this blog posting.

And you can follow along with the photos, which I will post in this Flickr set. In related news, if anyone has any suggestions for self-portrait photos I can take5, let me know!

Wish me luck!

  1. Eek! Where the hell did the time go? []
  2. That one was for you, Kalev! []
  3. I figure I could do this from Ontario, where I’m planning to go for Christmas. []
  4. See here for my first 365 photo challenge. []
  5. Within reason! []

Only A Fortnight Left!

Remember that time I started taking a self-portrait a day and said I’d continue to do that for 365 days? Well, today marks Day 351, meaning that there is only a fornight left of photos to be taken for that project to be complete. Just 14 photos between me and the glory that is completing this project1.

Here are a few of my favs so far:

Day 153Day 6
Day 276Day 68Day 112Day 266 - Happy Pi Day!Day 285Day 103Day 248Day 253Day 306 - At Tokyo Police Club showDay 329Day 148Day 183Day 212Day 159
Day 196Day 193 - New Year's EveDay 131Day 272

And here’s a link to the whole set.

Any last suggestions of what self-portrait photos I should take between now and June 21?

  1. Completing the project may or may not contain glory. []

365 Day Photo Challenge – Update

So 151 days ago I started the 365 photo challenge – and have taken a photo of myself every single day since then1. A disproportionate amount of them are in my bed, since many days I only remember to do it at the end of the day!  On Thursdays I take a photo of myself in whatever outfit I wore to teach that night – it helps me make sure I don’t wear the same thing twice! – and you can actually see them appear diagonally through the set – I’m almost always in the same location and do the same pose.

Here are a few of my favs:

Day 44 Day 24 Day 40 Day 81 Day 106 Day 114 Day 107

and yesterday’s:

Day 150

which was inspired by Darren tweeted about sliding glass doors on bathtubs, which I happen to have.  So, yeah, basically I’m running on empty as far as ideas for photos go.  Do you have ideas? If so, you should probably tell those ideas to me!

Also, check out the set and let me know in the comments section which ones are your favs!

  1. well, I haven’t taken today’s yet. But I still have time []
