Books, books, books!
Now that I’m on summer “break” ((Where by “break” I mean I’m only working full-time, updating the course I teach (note to self: send email to admin peeps re: updating course), working on my business plan and a couple of assignments for school.)), I’m actually allowing myself to read things whose titles don’t include words like “Financial Accounting”, “Organizational Behaviour”, or “Corporate Finance”.
So far, I’ve managed to knock back:
- Mockingjay, the third book in The Hunger Games trilogy ((I knocked back the first two books in the series – The Hunger Games and Catching Fire – over the Christmas break)). It’s a “young adult” novel, so it was a pretty quick read.
- Flashforward. I’ve been wanting to read this since the TV series that was loosely based on it aired back in 2009/10.
I also have some books that I started before the start of school, but never managed to finish:
- Your Brain at Work: Strategies for Overcoming Distraction, Regaining Focus, and Working Smarter All Day Long by David Rock ((Started reading this on my summer vacation last year.)).
- Autism’s False Prophets by Paul Offit.
- The Last Spike by Pierre Berton
And then I have a few other books I’m wanting to read:
- The Happiness Project
- The Immortal Life of Hernietta Lacks
- Born to Run
- Empire of Illusion
- A Short History of Nearly Everything
- The Portable Atheist
- Hitch-22
- The World is Flat
- The Art of the Start
- The Myth of the Garage
- Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences
- Cryptonomicon
- World War Z
Just to name a few.
Now comes the part of the blog posting where I claim that I’ll write blog postings about the books that I have read, and the books that I will read, for the duration of the summer. Chance of this actually happening = 0.01%.

You need to get on Goodreads!
That looks like another site I’d need to enter info into. And then it would give me recommendations for more books that I don’t have time to read.
Clearly, I need to somehow become independently wealthy so that I can sit around and read all day!
I’m currently reading The Baroque Cycle, which refers constantly to Cryptonomicon, even though it’s not technically part of the Cycle. I think I’ll read it when I’m through with the cycle though. I hope you get through all your books!
